Jackson Hole Energy Sustainability Project
Mark Barron, Mayor, Jackson, Wyoming
Mark Barron is the Mayor of Jackson, Wyoming and has
been in office since January 2003. Mayor
Barron is a 30-year resident of Jackson Hole and has
been a businessman in the community for 26 years. In
November 2006, Mayor Barron was the first mayo r
in Wyoming to sign the Mayor's Climate Protection
Agreement, committing the town to reduce greenhouse
gases, and provide education and
leadership on environmental issues. Since then, all
of Jackson facilities and operations,
including streetlights and the lights on the Town
Square, have gone to 100% renewable energy from a
certified hydro-electric plant in Lincoln County,
thanks to a forward-looking partnership with Lower
Valley Energy (LVE). Mayor Barron is first
committed to energy efficiency and conservation, and
likes to quote LVE CEO - Jim Webb, who has said,
“the least expensive kilowatt is the one not used.”
Mayor Barron touts ‘Smart Growth’ principles of
community planning as a way to mitigate Jackson
Hole’s housing crisis and growth potential, with
efficient use of land and infrastructure.
